Two men were seriously injured yesterday in a crash involving a pickup truck, a pedestrian, and an SUV nearly half a mile away. Castildo Mejia, 28, was struck by the pickup while walking along the road. The truck, driven by 47-year-old Patrick Martin, did not stop, but continued erratically down the road until it rear-ended a Ford SUV about a half-mile away. Mejia suffered a shatter shoulder blade, Martin lower body fractures and a concussion. Both were taken to separate hospitals. The driver of the SUV was not hurt.
Martin was issued summons for reckless driving, failure to stop at a red light, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended registration, among other charges. Police say Martin suffers from a medical condition which may have contributed to the crash and may serve as a mitigating factor in his case.
