Mom and Daughter File Lawsuit Over Defective Street Sign

August 10th, 2008 · No Comments

Following the destruction of Hurricane Rita in 2005, many towns in Texas were left in total devastation. Despite this difficult time, it is the city’s responsibility to repair and maintain public street signs so that citizens can remain safe during their day-to-day functions.

A Port Arthur, Texas, family has filed a lawsuit against the city after suffering injuries caused by an automobile collision shortly after the Hurricane passed through. According to the lawsuit, Jerry Jackson and Theresa Glenn (mother and daughter) were injured after a defective stop sign caused their auto collision.

Jackson and Glenn were crossing an intersection marked with the defective stop signs when a pickup drove through the intersection and struck Glenn’s vehicle.

According to the Department of Transportation, orange temporary stop signs replaced the fallen red stop signs until the damage could be fully repaired. Jackson and Glenn claim that these temporary signs failed to properly direct drivers when to cross the intersection, causing many automobile accidents over time.

Glenn claims to have sustained injuries to her back, arms, legs, and shoulders. Jackson is seeking damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering, physical impairment, and past and future earnings.

In some automobile accidents, the collision is the result of a city’s negligence rather than another driver’s negligence. If you have been harmed due to the negligence failure of a city to post adequate street signs, contact the Waukesha personal injury lawyers of Habush Habush & Rottier, S.C. today for more information.
